The Heating Assistance Rebate Program helps low-and moderate-income Nova Scotians with the cost of home heating. Rebates are $600 for each household. You can apply until 31 March 2024. Eligible home heating costs include: oil, electricity, natural gas, wood, wood pellets, coal and other heating sources and other the Other Side
Ineligible home heating costs include
- heating that’s included in rent
- cost of electricity usage that’s less than 5,000 kWh per year
You need to pay for your own home heat. If you rent your home, the cost of heating can’t be included in the rent.
Eligibility:
You must meet the Following Criteria to be Eligible for NS Heating Rebate 2024.
- You must be a resident of Nova Scotia.
- Your household income must fall within the specified limits. For example, a household of 1 person must have a net income of $35,000 or less, while a household of 4 people must have a net income of $75,000 or less.
- You must be responsible for the primary heating costs of your home.

Your rebate should be processed within an 8-week timeframe. However, if additional information is necessary or if your application is incomplete, the processing time may be extended. In such cases, we may reach out to you via email to collect the required details.
If your income tax refund is set up for direct deposit, your heating assistance rebate will also be deposited electronically. Otherwise, if direct deposit is not applicable, your rebate will be sent to you by mail.
