In 1971 Dr. Theodore Kaczynski rejected modern society and moved to a primitive cabin in the woods of Montana. There, he began building bombs, which he sent to professors and executives to express his disdain for modern society, and to work on his magnum opus, Industrial Society and Its Future, forever known to the world as the Unabomber Manifesto. Responsible for three deaths and more than twenty casualties over two decades, he was finally identifed and apprehended when his brother recognized his writing style while reading the ‘Unabomber Manifesto.’ The piece, written under the pseudonym FC (Freedom Club) was published in the New York Times after his promise to cease the bombing if a major publication printed it in its entirety.

The 35,000-word manifesto formed the ideological foundation of Kaczynski’s 1978–1995 mail bomb campaign, designed to protect wilderness by hastening the collapse of industrial society.

Unabomber Manifesto PDF Download:

The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries.

Visionary… ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What’s there to say. He’s disgusted with the way our once great country is going and went about exacting change in the totally wrong fashion…

Powerful ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thoroughly enjoyed this read! It seemed pretty original and really nicely summarized some of the issues with technology and collectivism that will only worsen with time. I tend to disagree with much of his philosophy but he made some great points!

Still relevant today ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
While I do disagree with some aspects of his writings(i.e some of his thoughts on leftism) I do find myself agreeing with most of his points and it leaves me with alot of interesting questions that I haven’t thought about before. I encourage other leftist as well as other people on the political compass to read this book.
